Dan & Cheryl’s Beach Themed Wedding

starfish-and-shell-bouquet

Dan and Cheryl were married on a brilliantly sunny June Saturday- just perfect for their fresh blue and white wedding colour scheme. Their reception venue, The Custom House on Poole Quay, emphasised the couple’s love for the sea and this great part of the country we live in.

I was asked to provide bridal flowers and buttonholes with a subtle beachy look. Cheryl’s bouquet included ivory roses, spray roses and lisianthus, with a little blue-green eucalyptus foliage. Mini starfish, shells and blue sparkles gave a rather ‘under-the-sea’ sort of look I thought…

Sally and Tom’s Stylish London Asylum Wedding

I can barely contain my excitement about this one! Sally and Tom’s wedding ceremony took place on Saturday at one of the most unique and stunning venues I’ve ever had the pleasure to set foot in (I’m not supposed to have favourites am I?)…

The chapel Asylum in Peckham is part of Caroline Gardens, a 19th century residential sanctuary of almshouses, originally built to house retired pub landlords. Bombed in the second world war and practically gutted, it incredibly retained it’s beautiful stained glass windows and some carved stone monuments. It is now an arts and entertainments space and the decaying walls are often used as a backdrop for fashionable photo-shoots. The place really does have a very special atmosphere with wonderful light and beautiful acoustics- amazing for a wedding!

I met Sally and her mum at a wedding exhibition, and I knew from the moment they showed me pictures of the venue that I wanted to provide their flowers. It’s a long old day trekking to London from Dorset and moving flowers about for hours, but it was definitely worth the effort!

Susan and Christopher’s Garden Wedding in the New Forest

pastel-country-wedding-bouquets

Susan and Christopher were married last Sunday at Gaddens Manor, a beautiful private home in the New Forest. The stunning house and grounds are just perfect for an outdoor ceremony and marquee reception, especially with installation of the new wedding pagoda this season! It was a pleasure to work alongside Jen from Weddings By Engagement, who manages the venue, and also great on the day to see Diana Saxby, a fab civil celebrant who led the couple through their personal ceremony.

Susan and Christopher had an open brief, requesting country-garden style flowers in pastel shades, to complement the garden and give a soft and pretty look. I chose a mixture of roses, peonies (rude not to for a May wedding!), scented stocks, nigella, matricaria daisies, lisianthus and veronica…

How to get the best from your wedding florist

contemporary-colourful-bridal-bouquet

There are articles like this one all over the internet and in magazines; some of them really great. Not all of them, however, are written by a florist who actually deals with weddings and flowers on a daily basis. I thought I should put together my tips for getting the very best out of your florist and receiving the service and flowers you always dreamed of:

Make initial enquiries as early as you can…

The best suppliers get booked up quickly and sensible ones will put a limit on how many events they will take on in a week. As soon as you have booked your venue and have an idea of styles and colours you might like, book a consultation.

Natalie and Dave’s bright spring wedding in Wiltshire

spring-vibrant-bridal-bouquet

I headed up to Wiltshire on Sunday to deliver Natalie and Dave’s flowers. It was such a beautiful day and I really rather enjoyed the drive… all green rolling hills and sheep and whatnot. The flowers perfectly matched the sunny spring weather, incorporating tulips, roses and thistles (faintly Scottish theme) in shades of pink, purple, blue and cream, with a dash of lime foliage to really give the colours some zing.

Natalie’s bouquet was in an informal hand-tied style, bound with rustic hessian and twine. Simple, unfussy and natural…
